Community

The local community plays host to many arts events and cultural festivals that reflect the scenic beauty and outdoor life that is the Crowsnest Pass.

Every spring the Kananaskis Rodeo Association presents a competition of some of North America’s top cowboys and cowgirls at the Crowsnest Sports Complex. This is one of the first stops on the Canadian Pro Rodeo Associations circuit.

In early July a world-renowned 146km ultra marathon winds through the Crowsnest Pass called The Sinister 7.  The course offers over 5,000m of elevation gain across its seven stages; it’s not for the weak of spirit! The Sinister 7 is open to solo runners and relay teams of up to seven. These atheletes are a wonder to spectate.

In mid July Thunder in the Valley lights up the sky with fire works during Rum Runner Days, a four day festival to celebrate the deep rooted history and culture of the Crowsnest Pass. Thunder in the Valley is one of the the largest fireworks displays in Western Canada.

The Country Market takes place in early August. Pumpkins in the Park happens at Halloween, and there’s a Dance Festival in November.

Many other diverse and enriching community events take place in the Pass each year; the Anniversary of Frank Slide, the Canada Day Parade, Sole Survivor 5/10K Foot RaceOktobeerfest,  the Bunny Bonspiel at the Crowsnest Curling Club and too many more to mention.
